New Development Board from Nordic Semiconductor
Nordic Semiconductor announced a new development kit called nRF9161 DK to support new developments in the field of cellular IoT (Internet of Things). The key features of this pre-certified single-board development kit are as follows:
The nRF9161 DK offers an affordable development kit designed for evaluation and development on the nRF9161 System-in-Package (SiP) supporting LTE-M, NB-IoT, GNSS and DECT NR+ technologies. Featuring a dedicated LTE-M, NB-IoT and DECT NR+ antenna that can operate globally, the kit offers a wide coverage area by supporting a wide range of bands.
Features of the kit include an integrated patch antenna on the PCB, SWF RF connectors for measuring the performance of RF signals, nano/4FF SIM card slot and MFF2 SIM footprint to support pluggable and soldered (e)SIMs. The kit ships with a SIM card preloaded with free data, and the software supports SIM usage, further reducing power consumption.
The nRF9161 DK is equipped with user-programmable LEDs and buttons, and all GPIOs and interfaces are available via connectors. Thanks to Arduino Uno Rev3 compatibility, it can be easily interfaced with external device shields such as Wi-Fi positioning.
Programming and debugging are enabled via the onboard SEGGER J-Link, while supported by a full suite of development software, tools and resources, including the Nordic Developer Academy's Cellular IoT Fundamentals course. The nRF9161 DK comes with a pre-flashed Serial LTE Modem application for interfacing via AT Commands and can be integrated with the Quick Start tool available in nRF Connect for Desktop to get started using other firmware instances.
