Qualcomm's New Generation Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Processor Introduced!
Just a few months after the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip announced in September 2023, Qualcomm has updated its virtual reality-focused processor. The all-new Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 offers significant hardware performance and feature improvements over its predecessor. The processor, which increases the GPU frequency by 15 percent and the CPU frequency by 20 percent, breaks new ground in virtual reality headsets by supporting more than 12 cameras. It draws attention with its 4.3K resolution on each eye screen and the ability to run applications and games smoothly at up to 90 FPS. In addition, the headset supports wireless standards such as Wi-Fi 6, GE, and Wi-Fi 7 and also includes 12 ms full color transparent video.
To promote the use of this new chip, Qualcomm stated that it is providing support for a virtual reality/mixed reality reference design developed by Goertek and incorporating Tobii's eye-tracking technology. Qualcomm also announced the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, which will be used in an unnamed Samsung virtual reality headset. In February 2023, Qualcomm announced that Google and Samsung were planning to launch extended reality headsets together.
