New Versions of nRF Connect SDK and nRF Connect for VS Code Released

Recently, updated versions of nRF Connect SDK (v2.5.0) and nRF Connect for VS Code (v2023.10.49) were released to users. These new versions come with a number of updates.

In the Bluetooth area, we have added a number of profiles that include standardized wireless lighting control Bluetooth Mesh profiles with support for Networked Lighting Controls (NLC). Additionally, the LE Power Control request procedure is now supported with Bluetooth Mesh 1.1 features that were trialled in nRF Connect SDK 2.4.0. Also introduced is an improved Wi-Fi scanning API for the SoftDevice controller, which provides experimental support for Bluetooth Low Energy Synchronous channels, and improvements that reduce memory usage.

Regarding Wi-Fi, new examples have been introduced and existing examples have been expanded for TWT, Shutdown and WFA QuickTrack control applications. Software SIM API support for Software SIM-based solutions was also introduced, and experimental support was added to the Matter bridge implementation for the nRF7002 DK in Matter, resulting in improvements in memory usage. Amazon Sidewalk is integrated as part of the nRF Connect SDK, which supports nRF52840 and nRF5340 SoCs.

The v2023.10.49 release of VS Code moved the SDK and toolchain installation section of the nRF Connect SDK to VS Code to improve the developer experience. It also offers Memory Explorer (now called Memory Viewer), Device Tree Visual Editor, and other new features.

To learn more about the new features, you can sign up for webinars with Scandinavian experts on November 2. This seminar will explain the new features in detail and include demo demonstrations. Sign up for more information and follow updates.

These updates present exciting opportunities for those looking to develop IoT and wireless technology.
