Types of Transistors

Types of Transistors

BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor): There are two types, NPN and PNP. There are also subtypes such as Darlington transistor, Sziklai transistor, SIT (Static Induction Transistor), Ballast transistor and Phototransistor.

MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor): The most commonly used MOSFET types are: N-channel MOSFET, P-channel MOSFET, Depletion MOSFET, and Enhancement MOSFET. However, other MOSFET subtypes are also available, such as DTMOS (Double-diffused MOS), UMOS (Unipolar MOS), VMOS (Vertical MOS), LDMOS (Laterally Diffused MOS), and Power MOSFET.

JFET (Junction Field Effect Transistor): There are two types, N-type and P-type. Subtypes such as N-type JFET, P-type JFET, Depletion JFET and Enhancement JFET are also available.

IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor): Different types of IGBT are available, such as Extended IGBT, N-type IGBT, P-type IGBT and Metal-oxide IGBT.

SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier): Other SCR subtypes include GTO (Gate Turn-off thyristor), SCS (Silicon Controlled Switch), LASCR (Light Activated SCR) and MCT (MOS-Controlled Thyristor).

TRIAC (Triode for Alternating Current): It is mainly used for AC power control. Other triac subtypes include diode triac, quadrant triac, and symmetrical triac.

BRT (Bipolar Resistor Transistor): This is a combination of BJT and resistor component and is ideal for high gain amplifiers.
