What is BLDC Motor?


BLDC (Brushless DC) motor is a type of brushless direct current (DC) motor. In conventional DC motors, rotation direction and speed control are provided by using mechanical contacts called brushes, while brushes are not used in BLDC motors. Instead, an electronically controlled power electronic circuit causes the magnetic field to rotate in the rotor of the motor.

BLDC motors have advantages such as high efficiency, longer life, lower maintenance requirement and high speed-torque performance. They also run quieter and produce less vibration. For this reason, BLDC motors are preferred in various applications, especially in areas such as automotive, industrial machinery, household appliances, robotics and aerospace.

BLDC motors have two main types, with or without magnetic sensors. BLDC motors with magnetic sensors use sensors to detect the rotor position, while sensorless BLDC motors use advanced control algorithms for position feedback. Sensorless BLDC motors may have less complexity and lower cost, but the control difficulty may be slightly higher compared to sensor motors.
