Resistor Color Codes

Resistor Color Codes

Resistors used in electronic circuits have color codes on them. These color codes indicate the value of the resistor. Resistor color codes are as follows:

Black = 0
Brown = 1
Red = 2
Orange = 3
Yellow = 4
Green = 5
Blue = 6
Purple = 7
Gray = 8
White = 9

These colors are used as bands on the resistor. The first two bands indicate the value of the resistance, the third band the multiplier, and the fourth band the tolerance. For example, a brown-black-red-gold (1 0 x10^2-- 5%) color-coded resistor has a resistance value of 10x10^2 ohms (1000 ohms) and has a 5% tolerance.
